Priest, the manhwaHorror westerns are hard to do.  And by that, I mean that while the idea is great, I’ve yet to see a movie that did a good job with the idea.  Still, with the talent behind the upcoming movie Priest, I have a feeling we may finally be in for a good one.  ” PRIEST is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires and follows a warrior priest (Bettany) who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece.”

Signed to play the titular character is Paul Bettany of The Davinci Code and A Beautiful Mind.  Also attached to the movie is Twilight‘s Cam Gigandet (who was also in the underrated Never Back Down), as a “young wasteland sheriff who is part vampire. He partners with Bettany to save the girl he loves, the niece. That latter part has yet to be cast.”

Priest is adapted from the storyline of a very interesting looking manhwa of the same name, with a script by Cory Goodman (The Brood) and directed by Scott Stewart (the upcoming Legion).  It’s due for release in August 2010.
