Man, my fellow FUNNYBOOKS co-hosts hate it when I talk about solicitations.  They don’t necessarily like what’s coming up, especially when it spoils whatever story they’re into.  But me, I love reading solicits, and Previews and checking out teasers and preview pages.  I mean, if I know I’m going to buy a book, I’ll probably skip over the preview pages, but I’ve picked up many books that I wasn’t originally planning on based on what I’ve seen in solicits and previews.

DC released their February 2011 solicits today, and there definitely some goodies in there.  For the full solicits, check here – for my thoughts on the most interesting books of the month, check after the jump!

DC Universe Online Legends

DC UNIVERSE ONLINE LEGENDS #1 and 2

A new 26-issue biweekly series, based on the storyline of the new DC Universe MMORPG.  As much as I want to play the game, I’m a little concerned about not having the time to warrant the money I’d have to spend on it.  But with a comic series written by Tony Bedard and Marv Wolfman that tells the story of the game, it seems like I’m going to get the story of the game without actually having to buy it, and that makes me a happy dude.  Featuring cover art by Ed Benes, the story involves  Lex Luthor of a post-apocalyptic future coming back in time to recruit today’s heroes to stop Braniac.

Outsiders #37

Looks like “Reign of Doomsday” is starting in January’s Steel #1, and continues here, with Doomsday fighting the Eradicator, who’s currently a member of the Outsiders.  Not only that, it seems like this is all building up to a big summer event – will Superman die…again?

Batwoman #1

Batwoman #1

I know Aron’s really excited about this series.  I’ll be shocked if this book actually ships monthly, but we’ll see.  The opening arc is written by JH Williams III (who also does the art) and W. Haden Blackman (Star Wars: The Force Unleashed).  Fingers crossed it’s been been worth the wait.

The Batman Books

Batman Europa #2 comes out this month – this painted series featuring international artists really intrigues me.  It’s written by Brian Azzarello and Matteo Casali, and the first issue features art painted by Jim Lee.  This issue has art by Giuseppe Camuncoli, who I’m quickly becoming a big fan of.  Not only that, looks like they have faith that Batman: The Dark Knight #3 will come out this month, and Batman and Robin #20, featuring the premiere of Pete Tomasi and Patrick Gleason on the title, finally comes out.  Red Robin #20 is the first of a crossover that ends with Teen Titans #92, which will apparently end with one of the Robins on the team.

Superman #708

Superman #708

I guess this is JMS’ last issue on the title, and he’s going to go out with a bang, featuring a crossover between Supes and his current Wonder Woman arc.  “Superman meets the new Wonder Woman for the first time! But why can’t he shake the feeling that he already knows her? The Man of Steel will have to figure that out later, as the two heroes have their hands full defending Omaha, Nebraska from the evil Keres, a supernatural force determined to rid the town (and the world!) of all Amazons – and they’re not too crazy about Kryptonians, either.”  Still not seeing how this fits the whole “Grounded” theme.

Supergirl #61

Dammit…I really don’t want to buy Supergirl…but this issue features a guest appearance by Stephanie Brown (Batgirl) and Damian Wayne (Robin). It’s written by Nick Spencer and features are by Bernard Chang…who’s a pretty darn good artist.

Superman 80-Page Giant 2011 #1

Superman 80-Page Giant 2011 #1

Yeah, this book is absolutely going to suck, just like the awful Batman 80-Page Giant where Gotham was stuck in a snowstorm.  But dammit…this cover by Dustin Nguyen is pretty spiffy.  I love me some Dustin Nguyen art, and I haven’t seen him do any Superman work in a couple of years.  Might have to pick this one up.

Justice League of America #54

Yeah, James Robinson is still on the title, so I may not pick this one up, but it features Eclipso!  “‘The Rise of Eclipso’ begins here as the dark energies that have surrounded Earth are harnessed once more to usher in the great Lord of Darkness! And it looks like the corruption of all mankind starts with the members of the Justice League! When things go dark, which teammate poses the greatest threat to mankind – Obsidian or Jade?”  I love me some Eclipso…but does JLA still suck?

DC Comics Presents:Green Lantern – Fear Itself #1

Yeah, I hate paying $7.99 for these things, but this reprints an excellent graphic novel written by Ron Marz that’s been out of print for some time now.

Young Justice #1

This new series is based on the upcoming animated series of the same name.  The series looks pretty damn awesome.  I’m hoping the comic series is just as good.
