Welcome back to the Queue Catchup! Despite my busy schedule and an emergency potentially involving a home insurance claim, I’ve watched a good amount this week.

So, what is it that I’ve been watching? Let’s start with the streaming service I use the least (only because I’m the least familiar with it) Amazon Prime.

My significant other, the man-thing, started up the show Grimm. Now, this is a show that I remember watching the first episode of when it began, but at the time had too many things filling up our DVR, so it fell by the wayside (I’ll have to have a post one day about all the shows I let let slip by me . . . Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad, The Blacklist to name a few)

Season 1, Episodes 1 and 2 of Grimm were interesting. the premise, as near as I can tell is that there are the monsters from the Brother’s Grimm Fairy Tales and there are people who hunt them. I like the idea of the premise, and from two episodes I saw it looks to be a show that could get lumped together with shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. I plan to watch more.

Now let’s move on to Netflix. Due to good word of mouth, I tried to watch the first episode of House of Cards, but it was moving too slow for the man-thing, so I’ll have to go back later when he‘s at work. But, we did watch How to Train Your Dragon 2, for the first time. Wow. I enjoyed the first, and this one was so much better. When Stoick met his wife again for the first time in 20 years . . . well, my eyes are misting up right now thinking of it. I hope they do a third.

Now, moving on to Hulu, we have so much. First and foremost we have Sailor Moon Crystal! For those not familiar, Crystal is the reboot of the Sailor Moon franchise. I loved the original as a kid. There are so many things that spark at the nostalgia of Sailor Moon with Crystal. But Crystal I feel is written and presented to what I feel is an older and more intelligent demographic. I mean yes, it’s still a kids show, but it take itself serious enough that adults can enjoy it. They’re following the source material a bit more closely. and have already completed the first major story arc. All episodes are still available on Hulu+, and it’s easy to catch up if you have a weekend to mainline it. The most recent episode, 17, spotlights my favorite of the Sailor Scouts, Sailor Jupiter. The group has been dealing with agents of the Dark Moon and the Scouts have been being kidnapped one by one. Jupiter is the third to be taken.

The first episode back for Once Upon a Time, after the mid-season Hiatus gives us the villains of the various stories working together to enter the town of Storybrooke. I’m not enjoying this show as much as I used to. It used to be a good “One and Done” storytelling show. each episode would focus on a different fairy tale character, but recently, with Peter Pan, and Frozen, it seems they draw stuff out needlessly. Also, I don’t understand how Cruella DeVil fits in at all. She’s just there because she was a villain in 101 Dalmatians. But, she just don’t fist with the Enchanted Forest environment of the other characters backgrounds. How could she even be there?

Furthering my watching of Allegiance, I watched episodes 4 “Chasing Ghosts” and 5 “Tipping Point”. I’m still enjoying the show, but I feel bad that Alex chose to not stand by his convictions and start breaking the law . . . but I guess no one can remain pure paladin white at the CIA. Also, the end of “Tipping Point”, if there was ever an example of a FUBAR operation.

Lastly, we have season 2, episodes 11 and 12 of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, “Aftershocks” and “Who Are You Really”. Of course, “Aftershocks” was good as a foundational episode, after the climactic events of of Skye going through Terragenesis we needed to establish a new status quo. “Who Are You Really” of course was the exact opposite. Eddie McClintock’s guest appearance was fantastic. I don’t know much about the Kree, but did we have our first Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance of Captain Marvel? And don’t get me started on how nice it was to see Jaimie Alexander reprise her role as Sif. She was, and still is on my short list of people that could do Wonder Woman proper.
