By now, if you’ve seen Star Trek, you’ve probably seen the trailer for District 9, the new film from Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp. If you haven’t, here’s the trailer below: What angers me most about this commercial is the lies that are being perpretrated against these ambivalent beings. They’re not here to hurt us. […]
I saw the new Star Trek movie last night. It rocked hard. Seriously, crazy awesome. Casting was brilliant, story was spot-on and the action was ladled in awesome sauce. JJ Abrams, please, please, please say you’ll make the next one. To give you an indication of how good the movie is and how well it […]
The most disappointing aspect for me about seeing Star Trek last night in DIGITAL IMAX was that there was literally not a single person in costume. I don’t know if it’s fear of ridicule, or just the fact that no one does that anymore, but hell, people dressed up to see The Dark Knight, and […]

With the new Trek reboot now in theaters and (hopefully) set to reinvigorate the franchise, it’s pretty interesting to note that this idea isn’t exactly a new one. While the storyline itself is original to this movie, the idea of rebooting the franchise and exploring the early adventures of the Enterprise crew was actually considered […]
Good golly I loves me some Star Trek RPGing. I’ve been running Trek games since 1982 with the FASA system. It is a system that is long out of print. Since 1989 in fact. For seven years, FASA put out the best damned Trek RPG that would ever be published. I love the system […]

SPOILERS FOR THE END OF X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE FOLLOW: Well dang. If my mouth wasn’t sewn shut in a Weapon X experiment, I’d stick my foot in it. I really wasn’t expecting this to actually happen: Twentieth Century Fox has begun development on “Deadpool,” an “X-Men” spinoff that will be crafted as a star vehicle […]
It’s kind of a sad fact, but most fans typically venture into their franchise’s “expanded universe.” Some of the biggest fans of Star Wars haven’t picked up Timothy Zahn’s excellent “Heir to the Empire” series, which (I think) makes a pretty darn good follow up to the original trilogy. A good number of people who […]
It’s Cinco de Mayo and Star Trek Week, which got me to thinking about all of those great Star Trek characters of Mexican heritage. That rich, bold… er … history of… umm… Were there any Mexican members of Starfleet? I consulted the Star Trek Encyclopedia and found an Ensign Lopez whose only noteworthy mention was […]
