Somewhere out of the blue the other day, I came across Th3rd World Studios, an independent comic book publisher started in 2006 that, to be honest with you, I had never heard of.
Checking out their website, it looks to me like they have some great comics. Here’s just a sampling of some of their titles:
- Space Doubles: A science fiction flip-book anthology that you can actually sample for free at the company’s website.
- Mike Racht’s Creature Feature: (from the website) “Each issue is 48 pages with three and a half scintillating tales of monstrous horror done right by top industry veterans, including CB Cebulski, Chris Yost, Andy Schmidt, Stuart Moore, Leah Moore, John Reppion and Brian Smith. — over the top and gratuitous with a super-cool soundtrack. (Readers are responsible for providing their own tunes, so break out the 8-Track or dust off your 45’s!)”
- The Stuff of Legend: ” The year is 1944. An allied force advances along a war-torn beach in a strange land, outnumbered and far from home. Together, they fight the greatest evil they have ever known. Never ending waves of exotic enemies come crashing down on them, but they will not rest. Thousands of miles away, the world is on the brink of destruction. But here in a child’s bedroom in Brooklyn, our heroes, a small group of toys loyal to their human master, fight an unseen war to save him from every child’s worst nightmare.Led by the toy soldier known as the Colonel and the boy’s faithful teddy-bear named Max, the toys enter the realm known as The Dark. There they will face off against the Boogeyman and his army– a legion of the boy’s forgotten, bitter toys. Fighting to survive insurmountable odds, the toys will discover this is a battle not only for the soul of a child, but for their own as well…”
Sounds pretty great, huh? The first issue of The Stuff of Legend will actually be a giveaway at this year’s Free Comic Book Day, but so you don’t have to wait that long, dear reader, I’m going to order some books from them right now and give you the reviews! Don’t want to wait for me? Order some stuff from their store!
