Buffy is set to come back...without anyone in this picture.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kuzui Enterprises, who holds the actual rights to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is looking into doing a reboot that is “looking to restart the story line without trampling on the beloved existing universe created by Whedon, putting the parties in a similar situation faced by Paramount, J.J. Abrams and his crew when relaunching “Star Trek.””  Another Star Trek reference?  Don’t get me wrong, I loved the film, but that’s hardly the standard by which all reboots should be judged, since it actually REFERENCES the original universe, and stars it’s second lead.  Pretty sure we won’t be seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar or Kristi Swanson in the Buffy reboot.  Just sayin’.  Doubt we’ll be seeing alternate universes pop up in Buffy so as not to negate what has come before. “The new “Buffy” film, however, would have no connection to the TV series, nor would it use popular supporting characters like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike.”  Also of note is that the reboot would be sans Whedon, which, despite the obvious fan backlash, kind of makes sense.  Why reboot it if the same guy is going to do it?

I guess they realized the proposition of getting Sarah Michelle Gellar back for a Buffy reunion just wasn’t going to happen.  I dunno…a couple more box office bombs, and I’m sure she would have gone for it!
