Add some blue flares and a bit of shaky cam - Marcus Nispel is directing Conan!

Marcus Nispel, who’s great directing has been seen in Friday the 13th and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, has been signed to direct the upcoming Conan movie from Nu Image/Millenium films.  While I’d normally think this is good news, I hear his film Pathfinder, which, honestly, looked kind of like a Conan film, was pretty bad.

According to the Variety article,

Nispel said he will blend his childhood imaginings of the character with the influence of the famous Conan illustrations by Frank Frazetta, and the influence of such viscerally violent period films as Mel Gibson’s “Apocalypto.”

While I appreciate his intentions, and would find it hard for Nispel to direct anything but an R-Rated film, given the amount of money riding on the film, I wouldn’t be surprised if the studio pushed for a more PG-13 film (though this review by Latino Review of the script says the script itself is a hard-R read).
