Yeah, I’m not just joshin’ ya.  It’s real – the news is here.

Supernatural The Animation turns out to be much bigger than previously thought. This morning, ANN reports that Madhouse, the acclaimed anime studio behind Death Note, Paprika and segments of Batman: Gotham Knight, is producing 22 episodes that cover the first two seasons of the live-action CW series: ‘The anime project will not only remake the best episodes from the live-action version, but also depict original episodes not seen in the live-action version. Those original episodes will include prologues of the Winchester brothers’ childhood, anime-only enemies, and episodes featuring secondary characters from the live-action version.'”

Yeah, quite an interesting take, and by a quality animation studio like Madhouse.  I’d be curious to see what they’re going to do about voices – sure, for the Japanese audiences, I’d imagine that they wouldn’t get Jared Padelecki and Jensen Ackles, but what about the inevitable American translation?  Will we see the stars of the show voicing their animated counterparts?  What about the remakes of the existing live-action episodes – will they just recycle voices from the show?  Interesting, indeed, and it sounds like we’ll get answers sooner rather than later, as the series will be released on Blu-ray and DVD in Japan in three volumes beginning Jan. 12.
