Hmmmmm…..
I want to be excited about this article from Variety, which states that a fifth Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is on its way in 2011, but a couple of things concern me. First, it says that the new film is live-action. Don’t get me wrong, NOTHING beats the original TMNT film – the turtles looked great in it. But the fourth film in that series was done via CG, and I’m not sure why the move back to live action. Also, it says the live-action film is “focusing on the origins of the iconic crime fighters.” Does this mean a reboot? They reference the original series’ first dozen issues by Eastman and Laird – how many times do we need to see that story reimagined? I mean, the original movie was in 1990. When this one comes out, it will have been 21 years old. I guess it makes more sense to reboot than it does to continue a storyline that’s over 20 years old. Still, it bums me out – I liked some of the set up that was done in the CG TMNT movie with Karai, Shredder’s female replacement. Oh well. There’s always the comic books. Where Splinter is dead 🙁
