Free Comic Book Day is a bonafide holiday at my house. It’s on the calendar, plans are made around it, we gather around the Free Comic Book Day tree, and sing Free Comic Book Day carols. It’s a whole thing. One grand tradition that my family shares is looking at all the titles released for […]
I came across this little gem over the weekend, a video demo-ing a comic shop locator for iPhone. Okay, first… too damned cool. Second? Who’s releasing it? The YouTube entry is posted by Diamond Comics, who distribute comics and created the web incarnation of the Comic Shop Locator. Okay, but who is developing this thing? […]
There are books in my life that I return to, over and over again. Books such as Watership Down, Dune, and Watchmen call to me requiring that I once again make my pilgrimage through those hallowed pages. Each sojourn there amongst these brings a new insight, yields a new layer of experience. The best books […]
Free Comic Book Day is Saturday, May 2nd.
Woopty-doo, the Flash is back! And this time? He’s a dick. The Silver-Age Flash, Barry Allen, died spectacularly way back in 1986 within the pages of Crisis on the Infinite Earths. For the longest time, this death seemed to be the one death beyond Bucky’s that was actually permanent in comics. Well Bucky’s back over […]

Sometimes I feel like a monkey. You know what I mean. Too much crap, not enough time. This past weekend for instance… between working in the yard Friday night as well as all day Saturday and Sunday, social commitments and quality time with the missus, there has been remarkably little time for geekery. Sure, I […]
If the honeymoon wasn’t over when Ollie (aka Green Arrow) was abducted by the Amazons and Dinah (aka Black Canary) killed the Ollie-look-a-like, then issue #31 of Justice League of America certainly documents the beginning of what can only be some real problems for the couple. In the aftermath of the craptacular Final Crisis, the […]
I was once told that most good stories begin with the phrase “To be honest, I didn’t think things through.” Once properly placed within the narrative there is a good chance that the phrase “and that’s when things went south,” will be the lead up to the climax of the story and reveal where everything […]
Is it just me, or do you have to go to multiple comic shops all across town just to pick up the comics you want? I love my local comic shop, but it seems harder and harder, especially in today’s economy where most comic shops are just trying to order what they think will sell, […]
